Pet the Pups Tour
Overview
Pet the Pups with Michelle Phillips and husband Ed Hopkins as they share their 50 years of combined mushing knowledge! Together they have raced in over 26, 1000 mile races in Canada and Alaska (Michelle did both the Yukon Quest and Iditarod in 2022!). At their dog mushing camp we will learn about the incredible sport of winter competitive mushing, the endurance and grit and bond required by both the dog team and their human to race through the wilderness in sometimes below freezing temperatures.
We will also pet the adorable future racing pups! You’ll receive 2 signed copies of Michelle Phillips book, and some dog booties used in the races. You may also book a thrilling 15 minute dog cart ride on a sturdy UTV (side by side), pulled by their racing dog team for an additional charge.
Before and after your visit to the mushers camp your guide will share our Beyond Skagway with you and take your group north along the Klondike highway, through White Pass, and to Emerald Lake.

9:30 AM: Meet the Beyond Skagway Tours representative, who will be wearing a blue coat and holding a “Beyond Skagway” sign, at the end of your ship’s pier, just past port security.
Head North, through Skagway. Listen, while your guide weaves the story of the Klondike Gold Rush of ’98. View notable historical buildings and hot spots to visit after your tour. Cruise over White Pass, passing by many scenic viewpoints.
10:30 AM: Canadian Customs; be prepared with your PASSPORTS handy! Continuing north, scan for wildlife and pass by or stop at these scenic points for photos!
11:00 AM: Stop At Michelle Phillip’s summer dog mushing camp Most groups allow 30-60 minutes at dog camp. You will want to play with the pups, watch the video about mushing, and maybe even take a dog cart ride! Don’t expect any snow on the group in summertime however!
12:00 PM: Head north on the S. Klondike Highway, stopping at or passing by even more scenic viewpoints.
12:45 PM: Carcross for lunch ( not included in price ) Enjoy lunch at one of the restaurants in town, or ask us about special lunch/picnic options!
2:30 PM: Head south on the same highway, enjoying a completely different view as you now watch the snowy and heavily glaciated north faces of the White Pass mountains slowly unfold before you.
4:30 PM: Arrive back in Skagway, in town or at your ship!
